You !

In the past thirty days CrossFit Kinetics Members have gone into two competitions.

1) The Manulife Dragon Boat Festival - Here we tested our exercise program to see if we could increase work capacity across the modal domain of paddling. We were in 3rd place going into the "A" final and ended up 5th overall. Awesome work team!

2) The 2nd Annual Atlantic Hopper - CrossFit Moncton hosted the event and clients from CrossFit Fredericton, Saint John, PEI, Dieppe, Moncton, Bathurst, Sackville, and CrossFit Kinetics did a random workout generated moments before the first heat. Affiliate owners Brandon Swartz and Tanya MacKenzie showed the strength of our gym by winning two first place victories in the Trainer Heats. Moreover, CFK made up almost 1/3 of the registrants; many of whom entered their first competition. To say we are proud is an understatement!

Many people participated in these events and we are interested to know what you thought of your experiences. Post below.

(Editors Note: I want to hear from EVERYONE! Of course there are the usual posters who type their results and thoughts. Many thanks for that. But we want to hear from those who keep to themselves. Inquiring minds want to know.)

I personally had a blast during both events. I am proud to work towards a goal with this group of individuals. Great work everyone.

I was unable to participate in the Dragon Boat Races so I can only speak about my experiences at the Hopper.

The hopper was a lot of fun and I appreciate the time that CF Moncton put into organizing this event. This was the first crossfit competition for me. Everyone from CFK and other boxes were very friendly and supportive. I was in the first female heat so I was able to do the wod and then watch everyone else. Lots of nervous/excited energy in the air. It was a good taste of CF competition for me. I watched regionals/sectionals in Fredericton the past 2 years. You really can't compare those competitions to the hopper. I am glad I got to participate in this fun event. Maybe this experience will help next year if I decide to compete at sectionals.

It was a good learning experience for me to really get out of that comfort zone. I thought that I was pushing myself at CFK but after Saturday I think I found that the intensity I had be training at during my wods at CFK needs to be amped up a bit.

Thanks to the trainers/owners for opening CFK. Like Alain posted yesterday, I can't imagine my life without CFK. We have a great CF community and I'm happy to be a part of it.

The Atlantic Hopper was my first CrossFit experience on a competitive level. I ended up being in the last heat before the Owners had a go. It was both fun and nerve racking to watch nine heats go before mine at a WOD that was so randomly generated that morning. And what a WOD it was.

For those reading this that don't know what came out of the Hopper that cloudy morning:

200m Run
21 Thruster-95 lbs
30 Push-Ups
21 Jumping Squats w/45 lbs Bar
50 Air Squats
400m Run

Watching everyone line up and hit the workout with everything they had, heat after heat, knowing that their lower limbs were going to take such a beating, was awesome. CrossFit athletes' willingness to tackle any given task with warrior-clad perseverance is second to none and is put on display daily, but there were some extra butterflies in peoples stomachs that day.

Athletes crushing the challenge in the rain, Abdullah falling just a few meters into his first run, ripping skin off himself and getting a road rash that would make a motor cyclist cringe and still hitting the WOD and laying it all on the table, Stephen's all out performance in the first heat are just a few outstanding moments from the Hopper.

Chris' little dance as he started the 400m run was pretty good too.

I was also reminded of the fact that while CrossFit is widely considered a sport at such an event, hearing competitors strategize and critique and such, it should not be forgotten that our little sport is also a world-class fitness regimen that is changing lives day after day. CrossFit is still helping people all over the world lose weight, gain mobility, and get stronger to such degrees that trump the capabilities of any fad diet or over priced gym machine.

Peigi, your performance and dedication brought both cheers and tears to the East Coast. You are one of the most inspiring people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. You embody CrossFit's philosophies and show clearly that age is not a limiting factor in anyone's ability to throw a barbell around. You are an inspiration to us all.

I plan on competing at Sectionals next year and I think the results of the Hopper are proof enough that there are NO better trainers on the East Coast to help myself or any other athlete get there and beyond than the trainers we have here at CFK. Thank you.

I'll echo Alain and Tiff and say that I can't imagine my days without CFK. Every time I'm away I'm always anxious to hear the "3-2-1... GO!" echo in the best box around.

Cheers

Varp
